The theme throughout this introduction to our IDC's has been thorough training. We've also stressed the importance of being able to do more than just teach Open Water courses or pass an IE. Diving is a Fun and immensely rewarding profession, but it demands a lot from those who are to succeed within the industry. As instructors it's important you have a grasp of the business of diving. Employers look for skills beyond basic instructing; maybe in retail sales, an interest in technical diving, regulator servicing skills, resort management or being able to skipper a boat. In 2003 we'll be introducing a series of diving related business programs which are discussed below, that will give you the confidence to fully succeed in dive industry of tomorrow.
The Business of Diving. Positive Approach Selling. This fast paced video seminar is a look at the attitude toward selling and the salesperson. The program emphasizes the instructor's role in the retail business, teaching that as a salesperson you do not have to be pushy or manipulative. Jeff Slutsky's " Street fighting" is your answer to the high cost of advertising and promotions. Another great video presentation, particularly useful if you're going to start your own business. Including; An introduction to computers, a look at spreadsheets, Microsoft Word, booking, stock control & email. Advanced Strategies for Recruiting and Retraining Enthusiastic Divers. Teaching more people to dive is the bottom line. The information shared in this program will help you to attract more people to scuba diving and teach more continuing education courses. Dive shop / Resort management & the business of diving. A hands on look at running a busy dive shop as well as a video and seminar. A look at stock control, restaurant management, housekeeping and much more. This complete course will teach you everything about the running of a busy dive shop including compressor operation, maintenance equipment servicing, store promotion, stock control, boat maintenance, restaurant management and much more. This program takes a minimum of four days.
